HEAL Phase III Brief

Action for Rural Education (ARE) HEAL Project (Phase 111) October 2012-September 2013 Project Brief ARE with funding from Ghana Aids Commission (GAC) is implementing the HEAL 111 project, as part of the National Strategic Response of the Government of Ghana's in HIV. ARE is working with the support of District Sub Grantees (DSG) in the following districts in Central Region to reduce HIV infections in 90 communities for the period 2012-2013:

a. Abura Aseebu Kwamang Kese

b. Assin North

c. Assin South

d. Upper Denkyira East

e. Upper Denkyira West

f. Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira

ARE will be working in 15 communities each district to undertake the following HIV awareness and prevention interventions:

a. Community drama

b. Video shows

c. One-on-One peer education

d. Condom distribution

e. Counseling and Testing

f. Training of peer educators

g. Training of SRs At the end of the one year period (Oct 2012-September, 2013),

ARE is expected to achieve the following outcomes:

a. 250,000 condoms distributed

b. 11,800 people Counseled and Tested for HIV

c. 41,300 people reached through one-on-one engagement

d. 26,550 youth (18-24 years) reached through large group (groups of more than 5 people) engagement

e. 32,450 adults (Above 24 years) reached through large group engagement
